Andreas Schnaas

Interviewed by: Crazy Ralph

CR: What is your favorite horror movie?

AS: Anything by Lucio Fulci.

CR: Did you have any experience such as film school or working on other filmmaker's movies before making Violent Shit?

AS: No, just learning by doing.

CR: Your first film, Violent Shit became an almost instant cult classic for its brutality and gore. Do you feel that the film has "typecast" you as a director into gore/exploitation films or are you just making the movies you want to make?

AS:I am truly a horror person and will never be the right director for movies like romantic comedies or DEAD POETS SOCIETY. I am the action, horror man!!!!!!!! And not only as a professional but as a person too. I love this genre and don`t mind being the horror SCHNAAS.

CR: Which of your movies is your favorite and why?

AS: DEMONIUM and NIKOS. Allways your latest babies. But the best
is yet to come.

CR: I've heard nothing but good things about "Anthropophagous 2000" aka Cannibal 2000. When will the film be released in the United States?

AS: We are considering releasing a subtitled version ourselves soon.

CR: Demonium is often cited by critics as a major step-forward in your directing career. Do you feel they're right, that it is your most accomplished film to date? What was the approximate budget for that film and how long did it take to shoot?

AS: Yes, I think that DEMONIUM is my best directed and most professional movie. I still have way to go, I know but I am very proud about this. The total budget was around 1.000.000,- US$, my most expensive movie that is for sure. But I also enjoy "small budgeted" movies like NIKOS. The hard work is the same.

CR: Nikos the Impaler is an extremely fun movie which stars Felissa Rose of Sleepaway Camp fame. Are you a fan of Sleepaway Camp and her performance in that movie?

AS: Sure.

CR: Do you intend to make more films in the USA and if so, how do you find your actors?

AS: I would love to work in the US again. Casting etc always develops through the preproduction. People approach me or are introduced.

CR: What is your next film and what is it about?

AS:I cannot talk about it, it is not in writing so far. Something kind of different.

CR: Do you have any advice for aspiring horror filmmakers?

AS: Get a decent job. It is one hell of a life!!!!!!!! If you have the balls to try anyhow be prepared for
poorness, hard work, hard words and tons of fun!
