Beware!
Children at Play |

What's not to love about a movie which basically consists of children murdering adults and then adults murdering children? I mean come on, cannibal toddlers - that's golden! Basically a Children of the Corn rip-off, BEWARE! features and excellent opening as a father and son experience the camping trip from hell. Dear old Dad gets himself caught in a bear trap and slowly goes insane while junior watches on. After several days, dad croaks and junior, who hasn't eaten in days mind you, chows down on pa's entrails. Now that, my friends, is a kick ass way to start a horror movie! We jump forward several years to discover that the town has been experiencing a rash of missing children. The adults are clueless but methinks it has something to do with the "woodies" which the youngsters are always talking about. A hot shot horror writer (a Stephen King wannabe) comes to help solve the crimes but before you know it all hell is breaking loose and the kiddies are exacting their revenge. The flick stars a lot of actors you've never heard of and or seen before and will almost certainly never see again. Directing by Mik Cribben is solid and the score is effective but bad acting does it in. Somewhere in here is the makings of a good satire. I'm not sure where, exactly it is, but it's there, lurking about just like the woodies themselves. BEWARE! is not a good movie, but it is a fun one. Lots of (bad) gore fills the screen and you get a dozen or so little monsters trying to look evil and basically ending up looking like... well, like little kids trying to look evil. There isn't a scare to be found but this movie is worth watching for camp value alone. And once you start watching, don't stop until the end which is truthfully one of the most shocking endings I've ever seen. |
