"Pray for day!"

Just looking at the cover of Hell Night it looks like one of the classic 80's slasher movies filled with lots of dead bodies, t&a and gore. I wanted to see that movie. That would be a really great movie. But Hell Night isn't that movie, it's like an 80's slasher movie-lite. Sure, sometimes you want to cut down on the calories but sometimes you just want some good old-fashioned fat for flavoring and anything less leaves you feeling unsatisfied. That's kind of how you feel after watching Hell Night.

Hell Night, as the title infers, is about a group of teens trying to get into one of the cool fraternities. To do so, they must spend the night in an old mansion where years earlier crazy folk lived and killed people. Has there ever been a horror movie with a mansion that didn't have a morbid history? I hope not because the cliched backstory is half the fun. This one has a twist though in that deformed children were the badies and they might still be lurking the property. When the two guys and gals head into the house, they quickly experience some fake scares at the hands of the older frat guys, but soon enough real blood starts to flow and the body count begins to rise.

Linda Blair headlines the cast but my favorite, Peter Barton(Friday the 13th Part 4)steals the show. Blair screams when she needs to and does an adequate job but she doesn't seem to really get into the role. The supporting couple is good comic relief and do fine jobs. Everyone is good to be honest, it's just a shame Blair didn't throw herself into her character 100%. The gore is very well-done but most of it is of the "after the fact" variety. The film lacks any nudity which should be a cardinal sin for an 80's slasher and it very disappointing in that aspect. Overall a strong story and good acting helps make this a flick worth recommending. If they just would have bared some skin and killed a few more teens this coulda been a contenda.
